The Here, The Now.

Peering out my balcony window, I did a double take.

My eyes sent signals to my brain that were nearly incomprehensible.

The fog, the clouds, the grey was encompassing the skyline.

It seemingly whispered to the city “Go ahead and invade my world, I will embrace you, but I will always win.”

The vast city I have stared at and fallen for, was suddenly smaller in stature.

The immediate blocks were now all that could be seen, and it brought sharp details and focus that is impossible when your eyes can wander.

The lighted windows of buildings before me, were now glimpses into world’s closed off until this instant.

A woman in red wandered about her room as a man in black moved in aimless circles.

Desks sat patiently waiting for their people to arrive and utilize them again.

I looked down to the streets, wondering if the pedestrians knew what was happening above them.

I wanted to shout down, to tell them to raise their eyes above, to see what I saw, but I knew the street lights and neons would obscure their view.

Sirens and bits of conversations wafted up to me, yet I still looked upward.

I have spent so much time looking down, that now my eyes were slow to focus.

That slow smooth crawl to clarity led to the scene having more impact upon me.

I was rewarded with goosebumps and a need to share, to bring someone else into this very moment.

Maybe you heard the call, and answered by bearing witness to this great city’s dance with nature.

Maybe you felt the same energy I did, the awe of seeing lights obscured by dense collections of moisture.

I hope you looked up.

I hope you were able to see.

I hope you felt it all wash over you.

I felt the moment.

I felt the life that encircled me.

I felt small, but I felt powerful.

This is, was, and will be a moment.

This is, was, and will be life.

This is, was, and will be important.

The here is so much more than we can ever know.

The now holds more life than we can ever imagine.

Look in.

Look out.

Look around.

Look up.

Do you see it?

Do you feel it?

That is life!

That is love!

That is the beating of a heart we forget to feel.

That is the song of a voice we forget to listen to.

That is the footsteps of a life moving towards a dream worth conquering.

That is the collection of people that do not realize how important they are to the whole.

I glance around, I smile, I breathe deep, and I let the goosebumps rise on my flesh.

I send wordless shouts into the night.

I AM HERE!

I AM NOW!

The smile that claims my face as it’s own, let’s me know that I am heard.

Here.

Now.

Exactly where I should be
