Hi, I'm Matt, and I am an unabashed Pop music addict.
I figure I might as well own up to it and firmly take pleasure in being one, what the hell I'm 30 and I am not ashamed of loving cheesy pop music, serious pop music, and the crazy stuff that you can't get out of your head, I love it all.
I listen to the BBC1 on Sirius and get a shit eating grin on my face when the Sugababes, Girls Aloud, or Take That come on. I listen to everything else and wait for the catchy bit of music that will come along and possibly lift my spirits three minutes at a time.
I love all music, but really see no reason that people think of pop music as a "guilty pleasure", why feel guilty about liking something that brings pleasure, I like pop music, and see nothing wrong with it.
I mean seriously look at the Beatles, they were a pop band when they ushered in the British invasion, now granted they grew over time and became something completely amazing together and apart, but they still had that pop beginning, but no one looks down on them for that, they are the Fucking Beatles, nuff said.
I don't mind getting a song stuck in my head like some people claim to, no to me that is the sign of the band making a song that does what they want it to, catches on. These people put effort forth on whatever level and if they do their job then their work should grab ahold of you and not let go until the next one comes along.
Maybe that is why people look down on pop music, because something else is always coming along and pushing the old song out of the way, but hey don't we all like to try new things? If the song is really good then we won't mind going back to it and enjoying it yet again, but why not enjoy the new thing too. Yeah some of these songs don't stand up like the Rolling Stones library does, but is that a testament to the Stones or lack of talent by the pop band, it's a bit of both I suppose.
There are all kinds of pop music from back in Elvis' day but they aren't always looked at as pop music, but as what rock n roll started out as, and thusly it was rock, but dammit that's pop music, and it's good too.
So yeah I have no problem with letting all kinds of people know that I like pop music, and now I am going to listen to Kelly Clarkson's new cd.
