What a trip.
So last week I took my happy ass over to Grand Forks ND, my old stomping grounds, my place I want to be more than anywhere else on this planet, the place that I have put on such a pedestal that it is a wonder it lives up to it when I get back over there. Now of course it mainly lives up to it because of the people that I go to see over there, and theoretically they could make any place my happy place, but Grand Forks holds a special place in my heart.
Grand Forks was the first place that I lived when I moved away from home for college, I went there knowing my roommate and his girlfriend and a couple other people from my hometown that went to school there, but that was it. It was exciting and terrifying all at once, but I knew I could do it. I quickly fell in love with the school, met some new people and became a hockey fan, all in all it was the right move for me to make, and the good stuff hadn't even happened yet.
That spring UND won the national title in hockey which was absolutely amazing and at the same time made me a die hard Boston College hater. When school wound up that year I had to find a job, at least that is what dad was telling me, so after a phone call where I got lectured to my friend though we should go to the bar, which was the best idea ever. We got to Bucks and had a couple beers and there were flyers on the tables advertising job openings, so wouldn't ya know it getting some drinks turned to me having a job a few days later. I didn't know it at first, but I would go on to spend three blissful years at that job, and make some of the best friends a boy from Eastern Montana could ever want to have.
So yeah I shot back over there last week for my third trip there this year, should be more than that but I only get 10 days of vacation a year. Well after work on the 30th I came home snacked a bit, showered and then hit the road. I love heading East, especially when I get to Fargo and I get to take my favorite right turn of all time, the one that spins me around and gets me heading North towards Grand Forks. This trip was even better as Fargo welcomed me with a firework show as I neared, of course it was for their new minor league hockey team, but I can think it was for me.
A little after taking my right turn I received a phone call from Kevin that they were out at the Bun, and seeing as how it was his birthday how could I not go straight to the bar when I got into town, I mean seriously it was for a good cause. I went straight to the bathroom as my bladder was a bit full, and wouldn't ya know it that is exactly where Kev was, so it was the beginning of a great weekend and it began in a men's room, go figure. Kev, Emmy, Lacey and me closed the bar down and then proceeded back to Kev and Emmy's where Kev and I could bullshit a bit more before he crashed, they both had to work Friday.
Well after waking up and hanging out with Lizzy, Kev and Emmy's dog, Emmy got home and we proceeded to hang. I think it must of been around 4 when I poured my frist morgan coke, and I see nothing wrong with that, I mean it was Halloween for fuck's sake. We all started to get our drink on and figure out what the hell we were doing exactly as far as bar hopping. We got dressed up, I was a mad scientist, and Kev and the girls were characters from Grease, as you can see from the pictures. On to the Long Haul where the ladies were lovely and the drinks tasty. We decided to go downtown after a bit and the bars were crazy, never seen lines like that downtown, but we found a bar that had no lines and wasn't half bad.
It was a great night, but the end of it kind of got to me, you see I found out I would not survive a zombie uprising like I thought I would. This got to me because I watch the movies, I read Walking Dead, I have read the Zombie Survival Guide, but for some reason this did nothing for me. There was a drunk zombie walking down the stairs and she weaves her way over to Kev and I see her go in like she is telling him something and I think nothing of it. She then weaves down more steps looking right at me, I say "how we doing" and that is when it happened. She bit me fucking hard, like no holding back full on bit me, I got a little bruise to prove it, right after that she was gone. I look up at Kev and say "Ahhh, Fuck, I'm gonna be a zombie in a hour" he laughed and said "me too". So I have to re-think my survival strategy now.
Saturday Kev and I proceeded to drink a few beers, watch the hockey team get their ass kicked, become big fans of Ask a Ninja, and then go to the bar with Tara. Nothing like goign out after drinking a 12 pack each, of course it was over the timespan of about 6 hours or so. Went out and met an old co-worker Nikki and her friends, they went to a bar we hate so we went to a bar we like, they met up with us later. Some things happened at that bar that absolutely made my night. First off Nikki's friends were treating me like a piece of meat and I loved every fucking second of it, who knew having your shirt lifted and ass checked out could feel that good. Then they told me Nikki liked me, and that's cool news because Nikki is a hell of a girl. A trip to the bathroom had me laughing my ass off. I was peeing and the man in the stall next to me starts to sing Night Man from It's Always Sunny, and someone at a urinal started singing along, it was awesome. Later in the midst of conversation I freaked out when I saw Green Man running around in the crowd.
Sunday was a little laid back, some football, beer, naps, and then Zack and Miri Make A Porno. I gotta tell you Kevin Smith is still my hero, and this is just another reason to love that man. It is a damn good flick and I say you all drop what you are doing and go watch the damn thing.
Monday I went and did some shopping while Kev and Emmy worked, then we ate some Red Pepper (GF's Finest food) and went over to a friends house that is being completely redone so that I could help Kev run some wires. had a few beers while doing that and then met the girls at the bar for a couple beers. I got to talk anthropology so I was happy, although I didn't think I was going to get a buzz the night before I drove home, oh well I love those guys so I will hang wherever.
Tuesday was hard, because I hate leaving, but I had to otherwise I wouldn't have. I timed my trip so that I would get home when the polls started closing out East, which was a good idea. I flipped back and forth between tivoed shows and the results, and once Barack won I was glued to MSNBC. I haven't been this excited for politics, probably ever, and Obama is the only reason. That man can give a speech, and a sense of hope that we have been missing for years.
The only thing bad about my trip was that I brought a cold back with me. Thursday at work would have been pretty good with steak feed, but I found out I got bumped off my job so I had to bump a kid off nights and now I go back to the shit shift. I think it might be the kick in the ass I need to figure out my exit strategy from Glendive, because after the pep talk I gave myself on the drive home from GF I know that I am allowing myself to languish, and I am not a languisher. So I am going to buy less, pay on my loans more, and save the rest, yep.
Oh and I almost forgot, YES WE CAN !!!!
