I LOVE THE WEFEST!!!

So last week I went back to Grand Forks to see my friends and get ready for the WEFest in Detroit Lakes Minnesota. Got in the car the morning of the 4th and drove the 6 hours over to Grand Forks ND, one of my favorite places in the world. I think it is one of my favorite for a few reasons, a) it was the first place that I moved to when I left home way back in 99, b) I still have some of the most amazing friends ever over there, and who wouldn't want to see them, and 3) I like going back and seeing what's different and trying to figure out if there is something I could do over there for a living as I need and want to go back. Yeah 3 is an ongiong process.

Well when I was rolling into the Forks I called Kev to make sure he was home and headed on over. Well when you walk in the door and get greeted with a hug and a beer, you know it's going to be a good trip. We settled in and did a quick catch up, where I got compliments for losing weight and looking so damn good, now I know what it's like to be a pretty girl, it's awesome. biggrin

Well we went and got a camper and truck that we were borrowing and took them back to his place, and then went out and got some grub and then closed down the bar we used to work at. Ahhhh Borrowed Bucks Roadhouse, the place that employed me while I attended the University of North Dakota, introduced me to some of the greatest people ever, and kicked my liver's ass for 3 years. The bar has changed some, but it's still my favorite bar around, it just always has been.

Tuesday we loaded up the camper and did some last minute errands and headed for the WEFest. It's always more fun to drive there then it is to drive away, what with not having a hangover on the way there and a huge one on the way back. We set up camp and started settling in, and that night I saw my first set of balls, and unfortunately they weren't mine and wouldn't be the last set.

Wednesday we had more arrivals to the campsite and started getting situated. We walked to a different campsite to check on one of the girls sisters who was staying in the campsite we did when we were younger. Well after a 2 mile walk I realized I could never stay in that campsite, but only visit, way to young of a crowd and way to crazy, but fun to watch. While I was talking to one of the girls I looked over to an inflatable pool across the way and saw 4 girls flashing various body parts, and then they started wrestling, and that was when the crowd formed and I lost my line of sight, but oh well.

Thursday the first concerts started, oh yeah by the way the WEFest is a camping/country concert even that takes place the first weekend of August and this was the 26th annual one. Around 5 me and Kev hit the showers so we could get to Taylor Swift and he could show off the shirt he picked up at WalMart. After Taylor Swift we went up to the Saloon did some talking to Kev's mom and aunt. After a bit we went back to the concert area and caught Jason Aldean and then the headliner of the night Rascal Flats. Good concerts all around and then back to the campsite to set up the fire, one of my favorite parts of the WEFest. Kev even brought a projector and his Wii so we could play Wii bowling on the side of the Camper, needless to say it made us a bit popular, especially when Kev would get the passerbys into the games.

Friday was more drinking, but this time we got rained on pretty hard, although it was kind of fun as well. Walked to the concert with the girls so I got there a bit slower this time and only caught the rear end of Sugarland's set, which sucked cuz I hear they are really good. Little more Salooning where we hung out under the canopy by the second stage. It was funny cuz every 2 minutes or so the canopy would dump about 5 gallons of water in front of the stage and on it, we had to lap when it poured directly on top of a girl standing up there. The intermediate band hit the stage and said they were going to do an acoustic set as they didn't want to get electrocuted, which in turn meant we couldn't hear squat. Well we kicked around for a bit then went back down to the concert area to catch Kenny Chesney. This was the first of the nights where my throat was going to hurt, a) because I sing along when I am drunk, b) I bum hits off the girls cigarettes when I am drunk. Good thing I quit so I wouldn't smoke a whole one, although I am sure I did have a couple throughout the weekend.

Saturday we had to get ready earlier so Kev could wear his Hannah Montana t-shirt to Billy Ray Cyrus, the only bad part about getting there earlier is that I got a sunburn on the top of my feet. It was the first day where Kev didn't have other crap to do, so he could finally hang out and get all liquored up, and we did. After Billy we went to a neighboring campsite to check on a buddy, get a refill of Morgan Coke, and man the camera for all the people that wanted pictures of Kev and his shirt. At one point there was this younger girl that was getting her picture taken with Kev and I could have sworn she was blowing on his ear and then she announced "It's a 14-16" yep Kev was wearing a young girls 14-16, and working it like no other. Then it was back to the concert area for Dierks Bentley, who I love in concert, man he's good. We hit the Leinie Lodge for a beer before back to our seats. I love the fact that Leinenkugel is there now so that I have options other than Miller Lite and Mike's Hard Lemonade, I don't mind the Mike's but I hate Miller Lite, oh and I just happen to love Leinenkugel Honey Weiss.

Dierks was great, as I figured he would be, and I sung my ass off as per usual, hence another bad night of throat pain. After Dierks we headed back to get the girls since we didn't mind missing Wynona. We got back and I made me and Kev a couple Vodka Cranberries, and since I couldn't see in the cups and I was a bit loopy I didn't notice that I had used what was left of the bottle, which was about 2/3s of it. Well we struggled through some so we could throw in more cran and waited around for the girls to get ready. I called my really good friend Aimee to rub it in that I was at the WEFest and she wasn't, luckily my phone died when I started getting sentimental, and sappy. I haven't seen AImee for a bit so it happens, especially since she is the sister I never had. Oh well after all that we made the walk back to the concert area to catch Brad Paisley. Me and Kev got some Gyros (man them sumbitches are good) and a couple beers then down to the seats for Brad. I sang my ass off, smoked a couple cigs, and just loved the WEFest.

After Brad we hit the saloon for a bit and then went back to camp to top off our drinks and get a sack of beer so we could walk around and see what was up. Me, Kev and Kev's sister Mary made the rounds, starting with the long ass walk to Eagle, the crazy campsite I mentioned earlier. Well we didn't want to make the walk back after our visit so we grabbed one of the taxis (six person golf carts that offer 5 buck rides) which are a welcome addition to the WEFest. Quick ride around and we did a walk aboot in our campsite to see a buddy of Kev's. While there we were told the girl across the way was topless so we had to check that out, turns out she was full on naked and yelled at us for standing there, who knew. Well Mary was curious so she went to see what was going on, and took Kev's bright ass flashlight, next thing we know we hear Mary say "oh my god you're completely naked" then all of a sudden the nekkid chick was chasing Mary. Only at the WEFEST people.

Sunday sucked because it involved camp clean up and getting ready to go back to the Forks, and being hungover as hell. Then back in the Forks we had to unpack the camper and do some cleanup. Then it was some nice hot showers, a pizza, and the Olympics. Then about 11 hours of sleep.

Monday Emmy went to work and me and Kev vegged, did laundry, cleaned up some more, ran errands, and had some Red Pepper (heaven in a sandwich). When Emmy got off work we vegged a bit then went to the Dark Knight, they hadn't seen it and I was more than willing to go back and see it again. I just gotta say it holds up to multiple viewings so freaking well. Also this time I noticed that when Gordon first goes and talks to Dent, the case box to Dent's left is for a Kaiser, Soze... well it looked like it was Soze but had been partially crossed out, it was a little blurry but I am sure that it was a cool little call back type thing.

Tuesday I said goodbye to Emmy and Kev, did a little shopping and headed back to Glendive. After a 6 hour drive I got back, and the mild depression set in. The kind of depression that has a silver lining of sorts because it comes about after you have a really great week that sees you hanging out with one of your best friends, attending the WEFest with an amazing group of people that all mesh well, and just being welcome from step one and feeling like family throughout your trip. Yeah that kind of depression sucks, but warms your heart at the same time.

So that was my super fantastic week, probably couldn't have been any better, and I wouldn't change anything to try and make it so. So yeah Love the WEFest, and the Forks in general.

There are a couple pictures if you are curious, check em out.
