I got a nasty looking avocado from food not bombs that was gonna be thrown out.  It looked like a 10,000 yr old piece of dried volcanic ash, some parts were dented, and the skin was a dark ashy gray hue.  It could've been confused with a rock, by the unskilled gatherer.  So, I took it, because I wanted to give it a chance.  I'm so glad I did, when I split it open, the most beautiful greens were present.  I cut my knife a little further and discovered how ripe it was and how creamy the center was.  By far the best avocado I've ever had.  The avocado represented more than just a nice pick to me, it was a revelation.  Never judge something before discarding, you never know what you might have missed.

  I hope to someday live somewhere where I can grow avocados.  I mean, they got guacamole inside there!
