One thing I hate doing is writing covering letters to potential employers. I've just done a bit of a tricky one. God knows if anything will come of it, one thing I hate about using the internet as a means of communication - it's just so damned impersonal. This is why I always regard fax mechines with suspicion too, it's just that you never get any kind of response to let you know that what you've just done has been received at the other end, that the finest minds in the country are working on it now and I'll shortly be getting the fattest job offer in the morning without the tedious process of having to go to interviews, which I find perhaps one of the most uncomfortable experiences of all. I can never think of any proper questions when they do the inevitable, 'So, is there anything you wanted to ask us?', I always just get a strong urge to ask 'What is the fastest land animal?'.

But yes, covering letter. I hate them. I don't have any problem with writing down the details of my job, and why my experience is great. I just hate the language you are forced to use. Why do I feel that forced to use the word 'Challenge' so much? 'Brand leading' is another one that sticks in my craw. I've been told that occasionally I can be quite forthright, much to the dismay of my boss, so I hate having to write down what I want to say, then heftily editing it to take all the small words out and replace them with words of at least 8 letters long, the same kind of words that spew out of my boss's mouth.

It started as a bit of a group effort, the first draft saying:

My current duties include putting stickers on tins of paint and driving. I'm quite good at it too, I can roll a cigarette without having to stop and everything.

which was my personal favourite, but it got voted down.

We'll just see if nothing comes of this one too.
perdy:
It gets easier, just make sure you save them! Then you can just edit it next time.
