...Late realization time...*turns on mood music*

Today, at exactly 1:28 AM during a chat session with the other SG members up at this unnaturally early hour...I realized something.

POP AND MAINSTREAM MUSIC IS A NECESSARY EVIL!!!

Allow me to explain...Pop and Mainstream is the most wide spread plague this generation has ever experienced. In my opinion it corrupts more of the body than Anthrax, or Smallpox, or AIDs. Not to belittle those things, they are serious as hell in their own right and I would never joke about them, but pop is by far the most infectious of the quintet. It determines what the bulk of what the world as a whole wears, it determines club scenes, it determines, slang, it determines a HUGE list of things I care not to continue with. But, my realization is more focused on the music side of pop culture.

Though I have a disliking for the stuff because of it's sugar coated nature and nonchalant sex promotions, I realized tonight it is the cause for many people enjoying good music over the years (myself included). If it were not for No Doubt and Silverchair, I would have never liked the stuff I do now...I will explain further, since that makes bugger all (i love that brit term) sense.

Okay, enter No Doubt and Silverchair. First two rock CDs I owned in 5th grade...around that time anyway. Now, for the years following I listened to anything the radio could jam down my preteen throat. That flagpole sitter song, at it up. Smashmouth, ate it up! Then, enter boy bands...that disgusted me and pushed my tastes away from mainstream. That was late junior high, and I caught the last half of Brackish (however it is spelled) by Kittie, and fell in love with the girls and the music. Then, within hours I saw Wait and Bleed by Slipknot, they had me at hello. I ate that shit up! Then it was deeper, I thirsted for this nu metal stuff, I devoured Obsolete by Fear Factory, Chimaira, Endo, Mudvayne...the list goes on...Then, my friends, the ones I owe my current state to, started delving into this music that I could not stand for the life of me. Screaming like demons, lots of symbols in the drums, trash music. Enter Hardcore...along with Poison the Well...the band that did me in. Opposite of December...And now I'm here...

Without at that sugar coated pop, I would have most likely not developed a liking for music, and wouldn't have dug my way to the lovely mess I enjoy today. And I am sure I am not alone...I am sure others have pop to blame for where they are right now with music.

So to pop...I say FUCK YOU, but don't go anywhere, you might be bringing me new friends and more support for good music. (good music as defined by me of course...HEY...It's my journal!!)

On a lighter note...I wanna shave my pubes into the shape of a star...
