I had a conversation with my mother today, trying to explain the differances between "mainstream" and "underground" cultures. Damn, I had to be so broad it made me sick. But, I think she got a general idea of things and no longer thinks that everyone who deviates form the mainstream smokes crack and worships Satan.
This is important because I'm very close with my mom. When dad ran off and we needed money, mom worked 80 hours a week. When I needed to be bailed out of jail, I called mom. When I needed $2900 for a car after mine got totalled, I borrowed it from mom. When general shit goes down and I don't knwo what to do, I ask mom. My long distance bill last summer was scary indeed...
"Mom, all I have is an egg, half a cup of milk, some rice, and a can of tuna. What? Yeah, I got a can of soup. Oh, I can make that? Thanks!"
My first book will be "The Poor College Student's Cookbook" and I will dedicate to good old mom, master of cooking on a tight budget.
So what do you get the mother who does it all for mother's day? Hmm... this is something I must ponder.
