Today in teacher as a decision-maker we watched this horribly depressing video about inequalities in the public school systems. The video focused on schools in Ohio as apparently (according to them, anyway) schools in Ohio best model the rest of the schools in the US.
I knew that schools were in bad shape, but...holy shit. Seriously.

There are kids going to school in buildings that have been CONDEMNED, but re-opened on a waiver because there was no where else to send the chidlren.

Yet a $700 million stadium was built, when it would only take $600 million to rebuild the schools in that district.

Ohio needs $10.2 billion dollars simply to get its schools up to standard state HEALTH & SAFETY CODES.

This is such a tragedy, yet still so many people believe that there is equality in American schools...? mad
ignorantprodigy:

One positive thing I will say about the sad state of schools is that it does allow for "super" students to emerge by the sheer power of their own desire to achieve. A testament to the mantra of evolutionary theory.

Another sad fact from what I have read and heard from teachers is the amount of students who do not care to learn in the first place. While I would blame some of this on the neglect of specialized learning plans which utilize all of the learning styles I mostly blame parents for their laziness in the entire process. So even if all the schools are rebuilt the children are only slightly better off until parents start becoming involved again. Oh and obviously this is not a blanket analysis as some areas are more or less true to this.

I notice cloves give me a headache and make me nauseous if I am not drinking while I smoke them. So needless to say I only smoke them when I party. Chemicals are odd little things aren't they?
