Went to see an AMAZING show lat night and catch up with an old friend from D-Town (that's Detroit for the non-Michiganders.) The show was Dillinger Escape Plan and my friend was covering bass in a D-Town band called Heads Will Roll. And as a testament to the fact that the D-scene is about as close knit as you can get, the guitar player was from a series of other bands that played with the sweetheart while still of tender high school age, completely unrelated to my experiences with my friend (does that makes sense?) Long story short, while I do not miss living in the Great Lakes State, I DO miss the comraderie and intensity of a scene growing out of urban decay/forced renewal that (no offense to Angelenos) I just haven't uncovered any roots of in LA. For those of you in the know, this is Hyatt's last show.

The crowd was however in good form. While the roots of the scene feel absent, the makings of one is surely there. Everyone was super keen and happy and really nice to my friend and his band. Keep in mind I am using the word "scene" in its most positive manifestation. It's just too bad the really amazing LA bands seem so few and far between when so many talented people live here.

Well, beyond the lengthy rhetoric I have subjected you to, you should fucking check out Heads Will Roll and Zombi (and DEP of course if you've been living on Mars-hehhehe just teasing) because they rocked my socks off.

Still considering the identity of my own faux-band...

there aren't enough bands named after skin ailments, maybe you should look into it
