best part of my place: the view and the light

worst part of my place: the sound

There are normal fire truck sounds that may or may not wake you up; they are loud and usually sound like a long whining with intermitten honking sounds. You can hear them anywhere and they are just loud: whether you live in the heart of the city or you're deep in the suburbs. Then there are fire trucks heard from MY apartment Downtown. Let's just say the alarm was set for eight, and I was up at six-fifty like someone had hooked up an espresso IV to me while I was laying there. And I didn't just wake up, I JUMPED up and grabbed my cat, ready to fight for my life.

One, being so high up, the sound intensifies the way it would if you were in an ampitheatre. I was really suprised by this when we first moved in here (of course, my astrophysicist wasn't and I was "lucky" enough to get a crash course on acoustics and soundwaves upon revealing my ignorance,) I thought things would be quieter the higher up we were, and they kinda are. Except really loud sounds. They get louder. Like the crazy guy who moans once a week. Or fire trucks.

Second, we live in a very high traffic area near all the banks and such, so when fire trucks need to get through around here, they NEED to get through. Subsequently they are really into that previously described honking sound.

Third, and I'm not exaggerating, every time the truck would stop screaming this yutz right outside my window would jackhammer. But he wasn't jackhammering the ground. He is jackhammering UP. Something to do with a fence, but I can't tell from here. All I can say is, add this to the tally of all the times I have leapt out of bed because I thought it was an earthquake. Which is many, because I'm from the East and paranoid about earthquakes.
naik:
You poor little thing.. we had a little earthquake here and I freaked out (also in bed at the time).. but no fire trucks!! It must be really annoying! Did you just move there?? kiss
