TEHRAN, Iran (AP) -- Iran's parliament on Wednesday voted in favor of a bill that could lead to the death penalty for persons convicted of working in the production of pornographic movies.
With a 148-5 vote in favor and four abstentions, lawmakers present at the Wednesday session of the 290-seat parliament approved that "producers of pornographic works and main elements in their production are considered corrupter of the world and could be sentenced to punishment as corrupter of the world."
What year is it, again?
Of course, the knee jerk reaction to this is, "OK, these people are all clearly fucking lunatics anyway, let Bush and his thugs go forward with bombing the fuck out of them. What the hell do I care?"
But it also says something about the society itself that the legislature is compelled to take these measures. The more a people struggle for their freedoms, the more the ruling body has to tighten its grip on them. It seems to me that we (we being the West) had a good thing going before we invaded Iraq. Their young people were learning more about western culture. They were becoming more open to the ideas that we represented. And what did we do with that power we had slowly gained in the region over the years? We blew it all in one idiotic stroke by invading and trying to finish the job by shoving our ideas down their throats. And then comes the backlash against Western though once again, and we're back to square one.
Yes, there's definitely some backward fucking lunacy happening in the Middle East. But it's not going to be erradicated by bombs and bullets. That kind of thinking will only turn them against us even more. Even worse, it turns them all back into the arms of the stupid fucks who make legislation like this. The evil West with its loose morality and bare-skinned women is trying to corrupt our pure, holy spirit. We must fight back by scrubbing the taint from our land with the blood of those who have been perverted. That kind of thing.
Executing porn stars . . . Jesus Christ. I mean, seriously. Jesus fucking Christ.
