It occurred to me that the claustrophobic geography of this country is the biggest reason why everything sucks. Why there is so little cultural diversity, why popular opinion really is popular opinion, why it's near impossible to just meet a genuinely interesting person without going out of your way to do so... and even then you'd be lucky if you do. Everything's too close dammit....

indeed:
After my "back atcha" wink, I read your entry.

Dude, this is exactly what I'm going through. I'm either extremely happy with life and not wanting to change a thing, or I'm so miserable I don't have the energy to change anything. I've recently sold all my belongings and I'll be leaving soon to travel around America. I've found some odd jobs in Florida as post-hurricane clean-up and a blueberry farmhand. I'm scared to death, but hopefully it'll change my outlook on things a little. I'm only worried about my friendships I have here... I really love my friends, but I'm terrible at keeping in touch. Woah...how'd you do that? You just got me to pour my heart out. My instict now is to erase all this, but then I'd have just wasted the last few minutes.
indeed:
Yeah, it sounds like you should get the hell out of there. If your only reason for staying is your music, and you're miserable in every other aspect, how do you know you wouldn't be making better music somewhere where you're not miserable?

Recent memories:

Moving into Party House Party House with 2 bandmates and the daughter of the lady who owns the house.

Gluing my hands together with industrial adhesive.

Waking up face down in a pool of my own vomit, the credibility of dying in the second most time-honoured rock star fashion only denied me by the apparent above-average vomit-absorbency of thick shag carpeting.

Spending three...

Fragments from a conversation I heard the other day in a takeaway:

"...she took that date rape drug on purpose..."

"...they didn't even know those two boys..."

"...can you imagine doing that in someone else's house?..."

"...there was blood everywhere. I had to clean eight towels this morning..."

Try to fill in those blanks.

hot damn! best journal post ever. that's going into a story somewhere. or a fucked up poem. yes... fucked up poems are great for shit like that. less random, but i recently was told by a girl i hardly know about the first time she took on two guys at a party and can't remember either of their names.
chris_sick:
yeah shit like this i never doubt, because its almost impossible to make it up. i think i remember that part in brave new world. dialogue is always hard to writer, mostly because since you're writing it you think it sounds phoney, because it sounds phoney to you, usually other people don't think its phoney. cause they didn't have to make it up. its great when i write a scene with multiply people if i can actually write it in such a way that you know who said what without me haaing to tell youi, just by whats said and in what order. that's always fun.

So on the way home today, we passed a car with these two fat fucks inside, mother and daughter I figure, the daughter - 10 years old at a guess - squirming around the backseat with a packet of something - and the mother - early 40's? - in the front, reaching round, grabbing angrily at the bag of whatever kiddie fatso is holding before...

nice to hear everyone on the other side of pond is having as much fun as i am. forget you knew yon girl. forget you knew everyone. break for the wilderness, eat nuts and buries and eats what you kill, kills what you eat.

simple as that.

but then again,
that is my advice to everything.

i slipped onoffon back into rotation. it did not grow. it did not even bud. there were a few that left me apathetic as opposed to outright annoyed. i will try again but today the only album that matters is the replacement's "let it be". i've decided it is the perfect rocknroll album. clearly.

thanks for commentary on poetry.

We (the band - The October Country - that one) just finished recording a radio session (for BBC Radio Wales, UK) this weekend. All live, sounded awesome.

Learned to shotgun beers, which was fun. Bob decided that in order to properly reproduce our live sound, we'ed all need to be in the same state we're usually in before a show. Since we didn't have time...

Shotgunning drinks is something I've learnt from London. It's great. Makes me puke though. ha ha.

OK, the party weekend was brilliant. The gig was a weird one. Much more of a family atmosphere than expected, and hence our typical nightclub sleaze didn't really carry in the midday sun... least of all in front of dozens of sub-10 yr olds.

Funnily enough, the younger kids loved it. We impressed a few people. Sold some CD's, maybe made some new fans. Plus,...

beedlebaum:
i downloaded that miniwatt...good shit.

I don't know where i got the gang of four from...maybe because everyone else is ripping them off?

You would love the shit out of Lightning Bolt, though.

Check out Load Records...they have a lot of decent stuff.

Just finished recording the new album - nay - the debut album. Now I'm trying to negotiate with the pressing plant who insist they have dropped their prices whilst simultaneously charging me 60% more this time for the same run I did last time. Anyway, I gotta go do the artwork. Big mega fuck off party weekend comin' up. We'll be playing an open air...
