when the darkness of this day
subsides into night
when the sky breaks
and borne is the sweltering sun
that's when I will be happy again
how many times can I fight
this fight?
rolling over and over like tossing
during a bad dream
and I can never get anywhere
I can't wake up
and the pain starts
all over again
in this, my personal hell
I yearn for the sordid
it keeps me alive
but you, you'll never be enough
no one person can be
and I'm torn because I know
I can't say these things
and make them real
to me
or to you
I'll shrink back into my shell
and leave the slugs to die
at the hand of tripping toes
and boys with fists full of salt
