Today I lost my best friend growing up Tyrone Fabroa. I first met Tyrone at the school bus stop where he offered me gum. I think that was his strategy to make friends on his first day of school. We discovered rap together, shared commonalities of the Mexican and Filipino cultures, and tried to impress girls.
Somewhere there are tapes of us lip syning to Ice Cube and Ice-T. I blame him for my awkward junior high outfits like rayon shirts and mc hammer pants.
I remember kicking his ass at Street Fighter, watching Up in Smoke for the first time at his house while not understanding half the jokes, and shopping at Jeans West for suits for school dances.
We lost touch over the years but chatted a bit on facebook last week. RIP Buddy
