i dont understand what drives peope to animal cruelty...
ok so i guess a few days ago on an iraqi compouind which we are help turning into a patrol base (weve been working at this place for 6 months now) there are two dogs..mama and dozer(were engineer equipment operators..so the name fits) well dozer is doin pretty good for himself cause hes got like 8 pups..and they stay in the american area cause we play with them and give them food and water and in a combat tour nothing is more stress reducing than just playing with a puppy..who cares if it hasnt had vaccines or not..theres a lot more things that can kill me faster...like last weeks roadside bomb i encountered. well anyway for some fucking reason the iraqis dont like the dogs there at all..so they think its funny to mess with them and do things which have involved my last 3 days at this base...well i had been out there a few weeks earlier and saw that there were like 7-8 puppies all healthy and whatnot well this time out i had seen them all and one of them was all smelly and had its head down like she was ashamed of it..they have a kitchen and their old food and compost gets mixed somehow with their used kitchen water so it makes this nasty smell and id figured it just needed a bath...
i later come to find out that a few of the iraqis had dumped extremly hot cooking oil all over this one puppy causing i'd say at least 2nd degree burns and it looked like itd tried to get the oil off its skin and fur by scraping and rolling around in the dirt well the burns were so severe it kinda peeled its skin back and then it prolly went into the kitchen water from before to cool off..
once realizing this we gave her a little pain reducer medicine from our aid bags and put some watergel burn relief bandages on its wounds and wrapped and dressed it...i didnt think she was going to make it through the night...the next morning which now would have been yesterday morning she was walking around..still kinda limped but at least shed look at us and let us give her water and food and she ate and drank like her brothers and sisters did and what really made my heart good was to see her wag her little puppy tail. shed even let us pet and comfort her.
well this morning we have route cleareance guys that come through and they had come out a few hours after it happened (with the oil) and itd been a few days since they had come back but anyhow they decided that it was suffering too much which i dont think was the case.. and so they took it out to the range and i stood there because we tried convincing them not too but they pretty much told us if they didnt do it today it would have been done after we had left..this was the saddest thing ive ever seen in my life
the guy pulled his rifle up and fired a shot and he missed but not all the way..just enough for that puppy to start crying so loud and limp away as fast as it could severly wounded then about 7 more shots after that until it did the job ..my heart sunk and my eyes began to water i had to walk away...
what a day....im so sad

I'm sorry you had to see the pup die. Poor short life.
