Always nice to meet a new friend! I've only passed thru the very north part of Idaho on the way to Seattle, but that's been a long time ago. I'm up in Canada, north of Montana. 
I'm sure it feels a little strange not having your son around for the first while as he's off to school, but it will become easier and more the norm in no time. Another stage in his life.
