Update on my rebellious tummy:

My attacks of nausea have not been caused, as some of you suggested shocked smile by a hangover, but by a sudden aversion to dairy produce.

I had my first attack a couple of weeks ago at work but assumed that the milk I had drunk had been on the turn. However, on Sunday I had a really bad attack after drinking some milk I'd just bought from the shop. Then the same thing happened after eating some buttered toast and today I was ill after eating some ice cream.

This is a somewhat upsetting state of affairs for someone who enjoys bowls of cornflakes drenched in cold milk, rice puddings, ice creams not to mention milky coffees and malted hot chocolate. I dont want to have to switch to soya milk, which I cant stand and anything except proper butter on my toast borders on sacrilege as far as I'm concerned.

I'm currently drinking tea with coffee mate in it as that's mostly made of vegetable starch but the idea of vegan ice cream is frankly filling me with despair. frown

The good news is that so far cheese is having no effect on me whatsoever. Thank God. I've tried vegan cheese. It was like chewing on a bicycle inner tube.

I'm hoping this situation will rectify itself at some point. I went through a similar thing a few years ago when I developed an aversion to wheat. Bread and pasta were off my personal menu for several months because even the smallest amount caused incredible amounts of pain. Thankfully, it eventually went away. Fingers crossed this will clear up before winter sets in otherwise I'll be porridge-less too. frown

Edited to add:

I've done a bit of reading here and have discovered the following:

The inability to digest lactose is caused by a reduction in the body's production of the enzyme lactase.

Apparently, this is a natural part of the aging process eeek eeek I'm not that freakin' old yet!!!

It may also be caused by temporary inflammation of the mucous lining of the stomach. That's more like it. smile It could clear up and has nothing to do with me getting old.

Some people can tolerate some dairy products and not others. This explains the mystery of the cheese.

Finally, the tongue in cheek bit:

Only 15% of people of European ancestry develop lactose intolerance. It is most prevalent in Asians and Africans. As I also suffer from vitligo, a skin disorder which is fairly rare amongst caucasians but much more common amongst Asians and Africans, I'm starting to wonder if there's some skeleton in my family genetic closet. shocked biggrin

With all the guitars, computer, clothes, boxes of kleenex, hand lotion, and vibrating blow-up doll, I'm afraid there's not even room for one porn tape in the car! (I'm just kidding...there'll be plenty of kleenex in the hotel rooms biggrin )
