The funeral service was beautiful, and I was more emotional than I expected I'd be. Derek and his brother both handled things so well! Derek gave a reading, and he didn't falter once. He has such a great speaking voice. So rich and deep. Everyone tells him he should do voice over work.
I had never been in a Catholic church before. It was interesting seeing the little dishes of holy water just inside the door, and all the people who entered dipped their fingers and crossed themselves. I grew up going to a hippy church one weekend, and a mormon church the next, so the rituals of the catholic church were really strange to see. It was nice though, and the message the priest gave was lovely. After his message, the family came up and gave words of remembrance. Also, Dereks cousin used to date a musician names Chris Pierce, I don't know if any of you have heard of him, he does that bye bye butterfly song that was on some commercial for a while. Well he performed it at the ceremony and it was sooo perfect. He did a beautiful job. Dereks dad, and his wife, performed an old church hymn. Dereks dad plays the piano, and neither of his parents have ever really seen him play. It was wonderful that he finally got to honor his father with his gift of music.
At the cemetery, the military folded his flag and presented it to dereks grandma, and they played Taps, and that had everyone bawling. But it was beautiful.
After the funeral we went to dereks grandmas house. Every one talked and looked at the memory boards and thought about grandad, and shared stories. I've never really experienced all this before, and it was really wonderful to see the family together and bonding the way they were. Everyone seems to be coping well. We have plans to visit Dereks grandma on Sunday, just to hang out and keep her company.
My sister is still having issues with the stupid bitch. and now the stupid bitchs sister as well(the one who defended my sister at first) Well, apparently my sister took matters into her own hands, and called the girls mother, just to clear her name. Because the girl had been telling her mom that shelleen(my sis) had done all these things to her, and was totally playing the victim. I guess the chicks mom was threatening to kick her out, and her sister jumped to her defence, and then called my sister later to threaten her and call her names and tell her how her phone call made their life so much worse because not only do they have to deal with her moms boyfriend having cheated on her, but now their mom is mad at the stupid bitch. Well, boo-fucking-hoo in my opinion. As far as I can see, none of their family bullshit is my sisters fault and the stupid bitch shouldnt have done what she did.
I am now on this website.
