Sometimes I really love living in Africa!
Today we went on a bonding day for work and this is what we did...

Spent the day at a little place called the Lion & Rhino Reserve by the Cradle of Humankind...

Saw these chilling by the bar lol

Squirrels? (I didn't even know we had squirrels in Africa tongue)

Some rather big birds

And some pygmy hippos biggrin

Then we got to go on a game drive through the reserve...

White Rhinos - sadly these are so endangered that our guide was not even allowed to tell us how many they have or anything. Apparently its classified! He did say that their latest poacher deterrent involved injecting the rhinos horns with Cyanide. It doesn't harm the Rhino at all but it will kill anyone who ingests it. So sad that they have to go to such lengths to stop them frown

Wildebeest - Apparently the most dangerous of the big 5

Eland - Largest antelope in Africa

Zebras - When we asked our guide why they were brown and black striped, he said they should be white and black but they are just really dirty lol.

Ostriches - the male strutting his stuff tongue

Now for the big guns biggrin

Lions - We almost ran over them. The whole pride was sleeping in the road.

Wild dogs - Extremely endangered with only 3500 left in the whole world!

White Lions - They cannot survive in the wild at all. They were initially bread purely to look pretty frown

Cheetah - Excellent at camouflage, fastest mammal in the world at 120km an hour, and hiding under a tree where I couldn't get a decent pic of him lol

We went back and had lunch, and finally got to the part I had been eagerly awaiting!!
We met this little guy biggrin

He's a 6 month old tiger cub!! (yes yes not indigenous to Africa but they ended up here anyway)
And guess what...

SPOILERS! (Click to view)

I got to play with him biggrin

This totally ruined my hardcore reputation at work. My whole department got to see me gushing over the pure awesomeness that is the tiger cub. Tigers are my all time favourite, and I almost wet myself when I got to play with one tongue

But that wasn't the end! Next we got to meet this little guy...

He's a 3 month old White Lion cub

SPOILERS! (Click to view)

Eat your heart out biggrin

And last but not least we met this not so little one tongue

8 month old Brown Lion. I love that he has spots!! Apparently its quite common but they disappear as they get older.

SPOILERS! (Click to view)

He really liked having his tummy rubbed! His back leg was going and everything lolz.

Jealous younger cub tried to get some of the action too ...

All good for me, double the fun biggrin

So that's something to tick off my list!
I wanted to take my favourite tiger cub home, but sadly it was not to be tongue Although I think my cats would have been v jealous lol.

So another good reason to visit Africa wink

Ag the shame - an SA Sg calling Buffalo "Widebeest", were you not aware everyone from Africa is assumed to be a game ranger/warden/expert on animals. letting the team down biggrin
