I can honestly say that this week has been one of the hardest of my life.
With Mike passing away on the Monday and his funeral and wake on Saturday, its been an emotionally turbulent time for me. I spend most of the week in tears, even had to take some time off work cause I just couldn't concentrate on anything. I was really dreading Saturday cause I honestly didn't know if I could keep it together. His funeral made it real and final, and that was a very hard realisation.
The funeral was really for his parents as Mike was an atheist, but his dad said some really lovely things, that completely captured what Mike loved so much.
The wake was more for his friends. His fiancee put together a slide show with pics, poems and art she got off his computer, which was really nice but also obviously pretty hard to watch.
He loved music so our guitarist played one of the songs he wrote and some of his other friends played songs in tribute. He really did surround himself with interesting and awesome people and after hearing all his stories about them, finally meeting half of them for the first time was actually really nice.
I guess in a way I feel a bit better now, knowing that so many people loved him so much, and that in the end he was at peace.
I only found out yesterday that he died with a smile on his face. So I guess after all that pain the release was something good. The amazing thing was that he made sure he saw everyone he loved before he died. Lots of them had moved overseas but somehow they all happened to be back in the country for various reasons.
I guess its weird how things work, no matter what you believe in.
I think I can move on now, but he will always be in my heart.
I'm so fortunate that I had the pleasure of knowing him for the past 13 years. He had a huge impact on my life and I know that who I am now had a lot to do with him.
I hope that you all get to have people like him in your lives.
Be thankful for the people that mean a lot to you. Tell them that you love them, and how much they mean to you all the time. That way you will never have any regrets.

Each day should be spent telling people we love that we actually love them. Life is fragile, more fragile than a feather, as light as wind. I send you many positive thoughts to you, to Mike and his family & friends. And you are so right; we should lead our lives in a way to never have regrets.
I send you many friendly hugs, xoxo
