Sunday. Day of rest? rarely.

Last night I was a "borrowed partner', filling in at a nearby Starbucks. I never realized how spoiled I was, with my nice, big, relatively new store. The one I worked at last night was a closet with espresso machines. All the same, it was a nice routine-buster, even if their store layout cruelly mocks lefties.

This post is coming at you via a sorta-yes-but-not-entirely new computer. Quickly glossing over details: I inherited a "dead" computer from my mom (one of those Dell monstrosities that needs its whole own desk and must sound like a military transport helicopter when it starts up), which technically only had a dead processor. I picked up a new motherboard and CPU, along with a more sensible case and power supply, and have Frankensteined together a pretty bitchin' system.

This experiment honestly wasn't just so I could finally play Half-Life 2. Even if I have owned the game for over 2 years, and never had a system that wouldn't buckle under the weight of its resource demands. Forget the fact that I could have wept tears of joy in not only seeing it run smooth as silk on this machine, but having it default to the almost-highest quality settings possible.

I also need this machine for work, because the latest version of our software (once known as Macromedia Studio, now known as Adobe Creative Suite) is too demanding for my other computer to handle. When Adobe first bought Macromedia, I was afraid they were going to package my favourites (Dreamweaver, Fireworks) with their favourites (Photoshop, Illustrator) and make the resulting ensemble too expensive for us little guys. Well they did what I had feared, but not. The result is Adobe CS3 Web Professional, which lets me upgrade what I've got to the latest and greatest, then for like an extra $100, throw in Photoshop, Illustrator, and Acrobat. Geek happiness ensues.

That'll have to do it for now, BrightRedScream, RavenVelith and I are off to the mall. Because I have NOTHING to wear to the Gala! *diva flourish*
