I once held her in my arms,
She said she would always stay.
But I was cruel,
I treated her like a fool,
I threw it all away.
Once I had mountains in the palm of my hand,
And rivers that ran through ev'ry day.
I must have been mad,
I never knew what I had,
Until I threw it all away.
Love is all there is, it makes the world go 'round,
Love and only love, it can't be denied.
No matter what you think about it
You just won't be able to do without it.
Take a tip from one who's tried.
So if you find someone that gives you all of her love,
Take it to your heart, don't let it stray,
For one thing that's certain,
You will surely be a-hurtin',
If you throw it all away.

I really can't practice law without keeping going with my pro bono work, but I am increasingly unable to do my pro bono work without seismic consequences at day's end.
Initial client meetings are the worst. Being taken into someone's life where violence and fear are de riguere. We speak often about the crying shame of a society densensitized to violence. I think the far greater atomic blow to decency is revealed in the calm narrative of a woman who describes attacks in levels of ferocity with an almost perfunctory nature.
Defense? Exhaustion? Need to keep it together for her child? Strength and lack of options are a hell of an alchemical furnace.
Furnaces everywhere these days.
I am ashamed sometimes to even begin to think I know what heat is.
But then other times I think well, I only know my own best and worst moments. I still have had a best and worst moment. How I got there or why -- what is 'valid'
"What is the price of experience?"
I don't know what it is. I don't know anything much more than I love my dogs, that I am so glad these two pugs are here this evening, and I am going to smoke this fuckface in court in October, whatever it takes out of me.
Best I can do.
