Man, did I have a whole lot of shit to tell my good old journal and my fine frelking friends today --- but, fuck it, I am closing up shop on that front.

Instead, all I am going to say is . . .

I fucking LOVE Cracked Rear View by Hootie and the Blowfish.

Yup.

Why?

Not only is it a Hella cool album, but it came around at just the right time and uncannily continues to do so.

It was released in 1994 but broke in 1995 when it seemed like all our girlfriends were angrily pretending they'd been freedom fighters in the halls of DeGrassi sticking it to the man when most of them hadn't been north of Chattavegas until interning in Manhattan

But, regardless of roots, they were all Canadian that summer, and by God did they don the flannel with pride, singing "you oughta know" at us with pointed and united and frequently displaced and disconcerting anger through the summer of 1995 , every GODDAMN night, at least three times each evening.

Cracked Rear View was the counterpoint to that craziness. It was a reminder that, 'hey, you know, your girlfriend is singing at you in an accusatory tone about getting a humjibaline during a moving picture show, but dude, Sega Saturn is coming out, and you've always got a cousin with a big house and a lot of weed in Charleston."

IT was the LP equivalent of Eric Cartman saying -- "Screw you guys, I'm going home!"

See, Cracked rear view was also there when our ultra hip friend the Grand Duck tried to explain that the Throwing Pumpkins, Screaming Muses, and Smashing trees were INCORRECT permutations of his 120 Minute franchise players.

again . . .Screw you guys . . . home

It was just a little bit of the simple things when a lot of things seemed too unmanagible, and it was a good old-fashioned kick ass group of little songs.

and

whenever things got too damn serious . . .

"She sits alone catching Chan Ho,
then tomorrow she catches Nomo."

For making some odd and goofy things seem infinitely less sucky, I salute you Hootie.

Once again today you got me back to at least bemused from just

--Fuck Fuck Fuckity Fuck--

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Anyway, Madden 2005 shipped today.
Yep, the small victories.
Damn bok
