I wish I was a apple
Hangin' in a tree
And everytime my sweetheart passed
She'd take a bite off me.
She told me that she loved me
She called me sugar plum
She threw her arms around me.
I thought my time had come.
Get along home, Cindy-Cindy
Get along home, Cindy-Cindy
Get along home, Cindy-Cindy
I'll marry you sometime.
I wish I had a needle
As fine as I could sew
I'd sew her in my pocket
And down the road I go.
Cindy hugged and kissed me
She wrung her hands and cried
Swore I was the prettiest thing
That ever lived or died.
Get along home, Cindy-Cindy
Get along home, Cindy-Cindy
Get along home, Cindy-Cindy
I'll marry you sometime.

Two guys who I happen to think kick all sorts of ass. Yep. That's what I think it means to be a man! Interpret that as you will.

"From the root to the fruit
Float like a butterfly
Sting like a bee
Rumble young man,

When I was younger man, I think like most boys I made up the end to that line and figured it to be something like "float like a butterfly, sting like a bee, ain't no one more cooler than Muhammad Ali." See, my version rhymed, like most of Ali's couplets (see e.g. "talk a little jive, take him out in five.") so I was a little bit partial to mine, over Ali's even, thinking he had, in some way, forgotten to make a rhyme. But then I grew up and realized that Ali kicked my ass in all sorts of ways around the poetry world. So what's my point? Ali rules and he showed me the way -- that all things need not be in a perfect structure of preconceived notion to be cool -- in fact Ali, like his rhymeless poetry was cool for what he transcended more than the expectations he fulfilled. He wasn't comforting in his actions, either in the ring or in the world. He challenged our notions of what a heavyweight could be and should be and what a badass man was all about. So anyway. Ali and Andy Griffith. Two sides of the same coin. So where does Ricky Nelson fit in? Just a suave dude who really could warble. Rio Bravo looked like such an enjoyable movie to film.
