I was thinking today about the real honest to goodness consequences -- if any -- of choosing to believe that Christ was of two natures, both fully human and fully divine, as opposed to being of a singular nature.

And I was thinking of this, not because I have firm beliefs one way or another, but rather, because my sister is a theologian and she has related to me, lapsed Catholic that I am, the huge textual wrangles that were waged for centuries over such things.

To me, maybe because I come from a comp. lit. and now a legal perspective, the inherent instability of our only tool -- the text -- guarrantees that we as humans are completely bound to labor under nothing more than subjective interpretations of the few who control the text in any attempt we make in establishing canon about any religious practices.

I do not mean that we should abdicate attempting to unearth what was once called "natural law" or search for a way to live by the categorical imperative in an effort to be closer to whatever goodness we hope governs creation. Rather, this writing is just to say that any literal codification of divinity is solely a human creation rather than a divine edict, and ergo killing on its behalf or its purported directive is galctically stupid.
