R.I.P. Ilsa. Cleaned out an old hard drive and found a picture of Ilsa, maybe the sweetest dog ever to steal a whitefish off a buffet table.

"If we never meet again, baby remember me, how my lone guitar played sweet for you that old time melody. And the harmonica around my neck, I blew it for ya free. No one else could play that tune, you knew it was up to me."

Bob Dylan, "Up to Me", Biograph disc III, track three

"Now I'm ten miles in the deep of the mighty blue see, looking back towards a long white beach burning up in yellow flames. I just sit back like a little boy up on a pony at the show, cause I can't fix something this complex any more than I can build a rose."

Jakob Dylan, fronting the Wallflowers, "I've Been Delivered" off of the album Breach. . .

. . . and the beat goes on . . .

Stuck at home today, house bound yet again. I've done a lot of time staring at this hood over the last four years. I had a two year stretch nearly paralyzed with back injuries back in 2000/2001, and followed that up with the near death experience of last November/December. Had to have an operation on my leg after a hoops accident, and it was bungeled so badly that the resulting infection resulted in two new surgeries and an infection so insidious and resistant to so many meds that it nearly offed Senor Blue Trash. But I will teach my first doctor that committing malpractice on an attorney represents poor judgment.

I guess this follows up what I was riffing on yesterday, the idea of context. I am still, but used to be far more, an anxious person. Meds have helped that, but context has helped it more. Two years ago I would have freaked out over missing a couple days of work, stresing over whether I was perceived as a slacker or not. But now, I just figure Ka will take its course.

I do love the Dark Tower books. Stephen King gets a bad rap because he is "genre" fiction. Horseshit. Literary types are such fucking snobs. They said the same shit about Poe, Raymond Chandler and Dasheil Hammett. I think it goes to the high school attitude that anything that is too popular is no good. That's just insane. Popularity and quality are not mutually exclusive. Granted, crap music gets to Number 1 a lot of times, but so did "Like a Rolling Stone". just too many folk want to prove themselves "above" the great unwashed masses. Well, I am the great unwashed mass (figuratively) and I laugh at them folk. They are the ones missing out. So, bottom line I'm a bit blue, and certainly lonely here in my little studio, but am well aware that things not only could be worse, but have been worse in recent times. At least I have a great new time killer in SG, and thanks to an excellent person I found the Sportszone group. This allows me to talk shit about sports without Suicide Girls asking me if I am speaking english.

Exactly!! Nothing better for a hangover than grease!! And even better when someone delivers it to you while still in bed.

I hope you are no longer house bound. No fun to feel the walls closing in on you.

TIVO and percocet would definitely make staying at home more enjoyable. TIVO has become my best friend over the past year or so. A little scared at first, pausing TV seems unnatural, but I have come to embrace it and it has improved my TV watching experience! WOW I need to get out more and away from the box... whatever
