communism vs. capitalism

lab mate: (totally out of the blue, while talia is adding lysozyme to DNA/RNA suspension) so, what are your opinions on communism?
talia: uh, could you hand me the isopropyl alchohl
lab mate: (in his nasal and monotonic voice, while slightly twitching) not until you provide a reply for my query
talia: i think communism is crap. i think people should be rewarded proportionately for their efforts, whatever those efforts may be.
lab mate: so you don't beleive in welfare then?
talia: that's kinda irrelevent, but, welfare is afterall, in my opinion, a product of selfishness... id rather not see the streets crowded w/ homeless people. there is some level of humanity, you know...

talia: i think the best thing you could ever do for somebody else, is be selfish.
lab mate: well, you just contradicted yourself, because by saying welfare is good, you are not being very selfish... i mean.. if you help someone, you're not minding your own business
