"The Newtonian God--the God who made a clock-like universe, wound it, and withdrew--died a long time ago. This is what Nietzsche meant and this is the God who is being observed.
Anyone who is looking around for a simulated icon of the deity in Newtonian guise might well be disappointed. The phrase 'God is dead' applies aptly, correctly, validly to the Newtonian universe which is dead. The groundrule of that universe, upon which so much of our Western world is built, has dissolved."
-Marshall McLuhan, The Medium is the Massage: An Inventory of Effects
I read this earlier today and found it a bit interesting. Anybody who hasn't read this book and has any interest in modern media should definitely check it out. I think the most fascinating aspect of this book is that it was originally published in 1967 and not only remains relavent but freakishly accurate.
Next up: Noam Chomsky, Media Control
Anyhoo. Nothing new is going on at the moment. Classes started today so I'm getting back in the swing of things. It was a slow start and I spent most of the day in my professors office watching the original Dawn of the Dead - good shit! Otherwise things are boring.
Someone needs to tell me a good story so I can vicariously live through them while I mindlessly wallow in homework...
