Frida & Diego at The High
Mrs. tadkil and I are still processing this exhibit. Prior to seeing Frida with Salma Hayek, I had not been exposed to her work at all, or Diego's. I think this was clearly the Anglo bias of the instruction I received. The movie opened up this work for me and led me to Neruda and others really wonderful artists I was blind to.

The exhibit at The High in Atlanta runs through May 12. If you can go, you should. Here are some images. I apologize for quality.

The restaurant I went to served their carrot cake french toast with cream cheese frosting, raisins, and walnuts on the side. I haven't tried to make it at home yet, but I will, oh yes smile The thing is, I make an awesome carrot cake but it wouldn't hold up to being french toasted. I told my mom about it and commented that I thought you'd need sort of a dryish carrot cake to start with. She hypothesized that you'd bake the cake, then slice it and leave it to dry for a day or so before attempting to batter it.

(My mom then made me sourdough french toast, which I have also never had before. Yum!)

Because of this post, I went to the High while I was in Atlanta - wouldn't have bothered to drive in to see this exhibit otherwise. My first cynical take as I walked in was, "Oh, this is just a way to try to draw ATL's Hispanic population in." But I got past that. smile It was a great exhibit - loved the juxtaposition of quotes, paintings, and photographs. I wish they'd had more of Rivera's murals - those were fascinating - and perhaps a few less of his cubist paintings. Also I wish they'd had more photos of Frida. What a striking face and bearing she has.
