It feels so good to be home (back on camp). I missed my music man! Gonna go to town over the weekend and spend my hard earned on goodies, plus gotta get dear old Mumsy a pressie for her birthday. And its gonna have to be a good 'un too, one of the familys long standing members was put to sleep earlier this week.
Barney was a border collie with a mental condition we affectionately termed dust-dancing. He would pound dust patches with his front legs and snap at the disturbed particles as he saw them catching the light in sunbeams.
He came from a rescue centre who demanded a stress free environment for him to work out his problems in peace. Around this time I was learning to play the drums
Barneys reaction upon hearing some fat back beats was to fly into an ecstatic state of mind and chase the sonic shadow of vehicles as he heard them from the other side of a wall he couldn't quite see over.
Every now and again he'd jump up to confirm with his eyes what his ears were telling him. Combined with his wanton desire to run uncontrollably around the garden snapping at sunbeams and giving himself a good back rub on the gravel it wasn't really that essential that we took him for walks.
Of course, we did, collies are hard working farm animals and need a lot of exercise or they just get snappy and irritable.
