A Veteran -- whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life." -- That is Honor and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it.

Someone sent me this quote the other day and it really got me to wondering if people really honor the veterans like we used to. I remember going to the parades when i was a kid and always being so proud to see friends of the family marching with the VFW. Now i am not even sure if the town that I live in is going to have a parade.
I guess I see some flags up and from time to time someone will stop to thank me for my service but I just don't see the general patriotism I was raised with being passed on to the younger generation. I am not asking, nor do any of my brothers ask for, praise or special favors for my service and I never will; I am just asking that this Veteran's Day those who may stumble across this blog may take the time to ponder what our lives would be like if we didn't have the very men and women this day is dedicated to.

"People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf."

Hey, it's good to see you around. How's fatherhood treating you so far?
