Moved to Montreal about 10 months ago now, so far it's a pretty spiffy place. I thought the language barrier would be an issue for me, and to be honest it has been a tiny bit alienating, but realistically I've only been in one situation where English was absolutely not an option (and that was exceptionally frustrating.)

There's a lot more going on in the game dev industry here than anywhere else in Canada - studios opening up here all the time while others are closing; there's almost a transient nature to being a writer already, but when your audience and platform is digital - well, it almost seems like you should be able to work from anywhere, no?

A couple of my peers are living that dream, at least. But I think being a freelance writer lacks the stability that I've always craved so much. Having to be responsible for your own medical benefits, not being sure if there's work for you in a couple of months, weeks or days - those kinds of things drive me insane.

It's been one of the mildest winters I can remember thus far. Moving here from Edmonton certainly set the bar for winter expectations, but I've always heard or seen that Quebec gets shit on during the winter usually. The worst day we've had her as of yet isn't remotely close to something worth worrying about. I guess it might be different if I were driving...
