well, today i was RE-trained in customer capture .. yay!
the place i work in has tons of corporate rules and policies and procedures ... one of them is customer capture ... what is this you might ask. well, let me explain ... when you come in to shop you will be greeted, and given customer service until you feel like you are ready to smack an associate, and then when you are FINALLY ready to make your purchases you make your way up to the cash-wrap. when you arrive you will be asked your first and last name, which gets puzzled looks, but it doesnt stop there, no. we also want your home address (FULL mailing address) AND as if that was not enough, we also want your email address. the burning question here is W H Y!?!?! well let me explain how deep the rabbit hole goes here ..... we get your info, and most people assume this is for mailers .. it is, you get them too, but it is so that we can keep track of you. we want to know who is shopping, how many in the family are loyal brand customers, and what they buy. we also want to know if they are loyal customers when they travel, so this information is collected at EVERY store you shop in, across the country. it stores your purchase history, and tells us what size you wear, how often you shop, and where you are most likely to spend money, what stores you frequent etc ...
we are expected to maintain scores with this customer capture. each associate is responsible for "capturing" 75% of customer's addresses, and 45% of customer's email addresses. I personally find this appalling, and extremely invasive, and i am NOT comfortable doing this. I have BEGGED to be taken off the register, pleaded to be placed in the back stock room. in fact when i was hired, i ASKED them not to make me a "sales associate" and told them i am very uncomfortable with public relations and retail "stalking" ..
so penchant on your scores, are the hours you are given,all "randomly" generated by a computer, the computer knows your scores, and schedules you accordingly .. high scores = more hours, low scores = less hours. and as if this is not insulting enough, your RAISE ELIGIBILITY is also penchant on your scores. its all crap!
