Today, while driving home from work, I saw a sign outside a dining establishment at the corner of Eight Mile & Grand River that made me ponder.

"Try the surf & turf."

The dining establishment? White Castle. surreal Where, pray tell, is the "surf" in White Castle? Are they making shrimp rings now too?

This will require research.

My workplace is slowly being taken over by a corporate leviathan. The last time this happened to me, I was laid-off within three months. Needless to say, I'm a trifle paranoid. Paranoid SYH = angry SYH. Fair warning.

Also, the new(er) vehicle is a pain in the ass. I fix one fucking thing and something else breaks (or threatens to). I am about fed up.

Honestly, if I had to pick between a '67-'73 American vehicle and a '75-87ish equivalent I'd go for the older one every time, if only for what you mention above... if I could find one that wasn't totally and rapidly rusting away.

I have a friend in Tuscon who works for an old-car scrapyard, if you want a rust-free '68-'73 C10... he can find one (and has, repeatedly and for a good price too).

true. but i didn't pay for the dress...
and i can't sell it. so, i may as well keep it!

Many, many moons ago--back when I finally convinced my parents to get DirecTV--I used to watch Cartoon Network religiously. On that fine channel, they had a show called O Canada!. Some of you may remember it. It was the first show to expose me to animation from the Great White North--namely, "The Big Snit", "The Cat Came Back", "Bob's Birthday", "Log Driver's Waltz", and...

I miss my truck. frown

Yes, it devoured gas & rust fell out of the roof when you went over a bump, but goddammit, it didn't leak oil out of every orifice after changing it. Yes, the brakes did go out twice, but I fixed them both times. Yes, it needed a new rear end because the outer bearing races in the left hub were self-destructing,...

at least it would be a pain in the ass that would make you happy. maybe. or that you could have fun grumbling about.

(nudge)

you're not going to give at all, are you?

when I was a little kid, I was fascinated with antique auto restoration. my grandpa was a tool and die maker and so I guess that's the tinkerererer in me. I just never went anywhere with it.

oooh! goodies! I'm glad you're feeling better

As promised, details:

On my way to work Wednesday morning, I blew the engine in my truck. Not whole lot of warning either. After passing a red Escort, there was a little more vibration than usual, so I started to slow down. Right about the time I hit 70, I heard a chainsaw ripping through concrete, the truck started to shimmy violently, and the cab...

As you read previously, I am searching for furniture. So far, I have accumulated a decent amount of stuff for my living room & dining area (technically part of the kitchen). Below are the fruits of my labors:

We start off with this evening's acquisitions--two office chairs & one couch. All Stowe-Davis, all green leather on dense wood, all reupholstered January 28, 1964 (the chalk...

let it go already. I'm sorry you think his six foot stained glass windows are hideous. I'm sorry you don't see value in the metal work such as the windill. but mostly I'm sorry that you can't appreciate that it's something that is important to me. instead of belittling and mocking something that I actually do think is pretty damn cool, to the point where you're fucking with the good energy of MY DAY, couldn't you have just said, "not for me"?
