Here it is, the return of SYH's Weekend Update.
Friday--I began my trek to missbernie's at noonish. MapQuest time? 3 hours 11 minutes. SYH time? Four hours. Includes one gas stop & one lunch stop. In typical SYH fashion, I arrived in the nick of time to leave again (read: Kira, PhrougBuoy, MistressMissy, EvanX, Tikkigod, Micah, missbernie, and MrNiceGuy were about to leave for Cleveland when I arrived). Fifteen minutes later, we were on our way!...to the gas station because MNG's mom's car was low on gas.
Never fear, readers dear. We arrived at the park well before the wedding started. Stirfry looked nervous as hell (duh), but he was grinning to beat the band.
It was a short wedding followed by a very good reception. How can you go wrong with the bride & groom entering to "Eye of the Tiger" or their video playing to "Please Please" (performed by the Official Band of SG, the Epoxies, if you didn't know)? Or, more importantly to us blue-collar folks (namely Tikki & myself), PBR & Yuengling on tap?
Side note--Somewhere around Round Two, Tikki asked for a PBR. The bar dude said, "Is that Pabst Blue?"
Some people's children...at least the bar chick knew which tap was which brew.
The post-reception shindig back at missbernie's got off to an inauspicious start when shabbydo & I failed to reach the store in time to buy beer. Boo 1AM cutoff!
In any case, we made do.
I bet you're wondering who were the last ones to bed. Us blue-collar folk, that's who. Micah, shabby, MNG, and missbernie were fast asleep well before the welders had finished bullshitting on the deck. I think we finally called it at 4.
7:30AM rolls around. I get up & get on the road to PA by 8.
I arrived in Pleasantville around 11:30. Had to stop for breakfast, doncha know. Had horrendous beer farts all day long too.
I did get to see my grandmother twice, once Saturday evening & once Sunday afternoon. She's not the Grammy I remember growing up, but she's doing a helluva lot better than she was the last time I saw her.
Well, here it is, 11PM Monday. I have properly broken in my grandfather's old stereo (it's slightly younger than I) with two Allan Sherman LPs & one Henny Youngman LP. Next up? An Evening with Groucho, of course.
