Oh Craigslist, how you tickle my funny bone...

Since the sun stabbed me in the eye around 7:30 this morning, I occupied myself by perusing the used car ads on CL. I found a positively delightful '68 Mercury Montego MX for a mere $1500 as well as a 1986 Blue Bird w/Chevrolet chassis (stick! biggrin ) for only $7000. The former I know is long gone since the ad is two days old and the car had gorgeous sheetmetal. The latter is probably still around, but I can't justify having a 35' truck in my driveway. Township ordinance prohibits me from parking in the street too. Bastards.

To perk up my spirits, I ventured into the jobs & services areas. Quite a few of those ads are real hoots. Some guy in my township really has it out for two guys named McGeary. Five ads across as many days cursing that name. No pictures of the damage though, just variations of DON'T HIRE THIS MAN OR HIS COUSIN. (Advice corrected for grammar & spelling.)

The real kicker is the back & forth over who's licensed, who's not, and why it matters, and what the State of Michigan has to say. To wit (again, corrected for grammar & spelling):

"Unlicensed handymen BAD. They should all be ashamed of themselves for shoddy workmanship."

"Licensed handymen are just as bad; they just know how to take a test."

"You're taking food off the table of honest, hard-working folks."

"You don't need a license if you the homeowner buy the materials but pay the handyman an hourly rate. Just tell the homeowner that and you're in the clear." {Ed.--outright falsehood}

"The State says you need a license for any non-specialty job above $600. That means labor AND materials, regardless of who bought them. I have a license and the referrals to prove I do great work. What about my family? They need to eat too."

"See this? (link to album) This is the job of an unlicensed, inexperienced, jack-of-all-trades-master-of-none HACK. Hire me, I fixed this HACK's shoddy workmanship. Here are some more pictures of my splendid craftsmanship."

And so on...

It's a gorgeous day today. I'm going to spend it outside comforting Faithful Steed. By this time next week I may have the short block assembled. biggrin
