Unseasonable Weather

I arrived in Berlin two weeks ago. It has been raining ever since. I learned today that at the moment it is actually colder in Berlin than in Scandinavia. Boots, sweaters, scarves and jackets are entirely appropriate for the cold rain, if not the season. I still can't help but think that wool in August is wrong. It is enough to make me...

Post-Op

I am at a friend's apartment recovering from yesterday's little surgery and the past week's madness. After moving in 100+ degree heat, working at the bar, defending my thesis, and going under, I am beyond exhausted.

Here is what my last week looked like:

Timeline

Sunday
7pm- Turn in Thesis
7:30pm- Drink margaritas. The lack of food and stress mean that 1 1/2 is...

The Countdown Is On

My thesis is due in 30 hours. It is still frightfully incomplete. For those of you who asked, I am getting my M.A. in philosophy. My focus is 20th century French philosophy, particularly post-'68. The thesis is on Deleuze's reading of Nietzsche as a way to get at his ethical claims. My argument is that there is a convergence of the...

Very cool. I was a philosophy major at UCLA. Thought about grad school until I remembered that I hate school.

And "Genealogy of Morals" is one of my favorite works, though I was more into the whole Wittgenstein/Moore crowd.

Is your M.A. where you're stopping?
nonfcomm:
Very cool thesis. Good luck finishing

Uninspired

I have hit the mid-way point in my M.A. thesis and can't quite make out how to get from point A to point C. Its like a puzzle- I have all the pieces but I'm not sure how they fit together. I was never very good at puzzles.

I am tired, a little sick and living in a room strewn with half-packed boxes. Everything...

You know what you need? To have a cup of herbal tea, sit down for 5 minutes, and not think about anything. You would be surprised at how refreshing that can be. smile

Ice Tea

I finally did it, I made ice tea. After a brief dalliance with Starbuck's Ice Tea Lemonade, I had a shocking revelation- why was a southern girl, raised on sun tea, paying $2.50 a pop for some ice tea? So, with some tetley in hand & a kettle of boiling water I went at it. Paired with some Newman's Virgin Lemonade, I'm sure...

Well hello Miss SweetV!

Thank you! The great plains must make us beauteous!

I usually work in Admin, but I am temporarily unemployed. I know I have a ton of tattoos, but I've always been able to hold down office jobs, by wearing long sleeves. What do you do?
sweetvicious:
ah, admin. I remember those days. I've foresaken the desk & the artic air conditioning to sling drinks at a fancy martini bar. and I'm trying to finish my M.A. in philosophy. and I'm running away to europe to default on my student loans & write the great american novel. or something like that. but mostly, I drink too much coffee.

cheers!

"L'motion nous gare: c'est son principal mrit."
Oscar Wilde

Ok, so this quote should be in English. But I only have it on a French postcard, and I like the elegance, so I won't risk a literal translation.
rys:
In Spanish, the literal translation of emo kids is "kids with black clothing and many emotions", or so my flatmate who speaks fluent spanish says. I feel like a geek even thinking about saying it... wink
