So...have any of you had interesting emergency room visits? I had one tonight.
I was
having an asthma attack so Chris brought me to the emergency room. Well looking
the
way I look (goth) and the fact that I was upset so not only was I not breathing
right I was
also hyperventilating the nurse made a split second judgment about me.
She was rude from the word go. I approached her and she asked what was wrong
and I
told her I was having an asthma attack. She then proceeded to help the person
behind me!
So I said, "fuck - thanks a lot!" She said, "I'll get to you - go sit down".
So I went and sat
down cuz I felt like I was gonna faint anyway.
Then she asked me if I had my health card and I said "yes" as I tried to get it
out of my
wallet. A second later she said "can you bring it to me" in a really rude tone.
So I said in
the same tone "I'll try" meaning if I don't pass out on the way there.
I got to the desk and gave her my health card and she told me to come around and
sit
down. As I was going around the corner she said "I don't want that stick
anywhere near
me" and I said "I'm not gonna hit you with it I need it to walk" and she said "I
don't care,
put it down on the floor". So I did.
She took my information and I told her that I had run out of my blue inhaler and
was
having trouble breathing all week and couldn't get in touch with my doctor. She
asked if I
might actually be hyperventilating and I said, "Of course I'm hyperventilating
I'm scared".
She gave me this really mean look and said, "what you're scared of asthma?" So
I said,
"actually this is a scary thing to have an asthma attack - obviously you have
never had
one". The nurse then started taking my vitals.
As she was doing so a colleague of the woman I was dealing with came up to her
and
asked her if everything was okay. She proceeded to say that she was on her 15th
shift in a
row and she was starting to feel it because of me and she said something else
and then I
heard her say "and she said have you ever had an asthma attack?"
I quickly swallowed my anger and remembered the teachings from my Elders. That
one
has to be patient with ignorant people and see each challenge as an opportunity
to
educate such people. So I interrupted her conversation and said, "I'm really
sorry that you
are having a bad day but I don't appreciate you talking about me as if I was not
here as
that is really disrespectful".
Wouldn't you know it, after that she was nice as pie to me! LOL I guess you
really can
gather more flies with honey eh?
From the time I entered emergency room to the time I left it was five hours in
total. My
attack eventually passed and they sent me away with a script for a new inhaler.
Below is a
rant that I wrote in an effort to calm down

Okay neighbors from the North. In one week I'm travelling to Dorset, specifically Lake Kawagama for days on end of mountain biking. What else is there to do? If nothing, I'll just keep pedaling.
