Well, it seems the rain is clearing up ... although we did get a little around 6 PM, my evening drive time. It is supposed to clear up, though, and we all have our fingers crossed. Tomorrow is the big day...

Let me tell you about my littlest child. His name is Daron and he is awfully cute. He came later in my life and to say that he was a surprise would be the understatement of the century. I didn't think I could have children any more and that's what I get for thinking, I guess. It was not a good time or a good man to have a baby with. I know there were other choices I could make, and I explored them, but this was the best choice for me and I settled into what you could only call quiet resignation.

But life has a way of showing you things sometimes. And you see, because my body really wasn't supposed to get pregnant, it couldn't stay pregnant. Daron was born 14 weeks early and he only weighed 2 lbs., 1 oz. He was the littlest baby I had ever seen. I didn't know babies could be born that early and survive before he was born. Nothing like an experience like this to teach you a little about humility and what's really important ... nothing like this to teach you not to take your loved ones for granted.

This is the first time I got to hold Daron. He was 22 days old and weighed about 2 lbs. 8 ozs.

When he did come home from the hospital, 2 months after he was born, but still over a month from his due date, he was 4 lbs. 7 ozs. I was a virtual prisoner of the house because I could not take him out into the germy world and I had no car.

Daron had the most amazing little red curls when he was a toddler. His hair was so red, even the sleeping freak could not outshine him.

Daron at 2, playing with a guitar string his big brother left lying around.

On a family vacation at age 3. Yes, that IS both San Francisco and New York in the background because we are at Legoland.

Daron at 4. Remember when you could still take baths with your friends? Daron's little friend, Michael, is the son of his godparents.

Daron is very smart and he just began Kindergarden last September. This is his first day of school, posing with Mommy. BTW, he goes to a private Christian school, so they have had to get used to my clothing. It's a learning experience for everyone.

One of Daron's recent assignments was to give me a spelling test. I apparently spelled all the words right and he was very impressed. He gave me a star and a smiley face and told me, "Good job, Mommy!" love

There are many good things about Daron's school, but I have two favorite things. First of all, he is in a class of 8 and he is learning so much. He can read and write quite a few words. He can count to 100 by 1's, 2's, 5's or 10's. He can add and subtract very small numbers. He knows all the states. He knows the days of the week and the months of the year. He can tell time. He can ALMOST tie his shoes. I don't know, it's only Kindergarden. It impresses the heck out of me!

But there is another thing that is very nice. They have taught him manners and compassion for other people. When we went to visit my boss's dying wife, he stopped to ask her how she was feeling that day and asked if he could pray for her. I swear to goodness, I didn't put him up to it. He just cared about her and prayed with all the faith of a child. It restores my faith in humanity to watch this.

This week there has been a buttload of rain in Los Angeles. This was the freeway on my trip to Wal-Mart two days ago.

But you see, tomorrow it cannot rain. Tomorrow is the big day. Tomorrow my little 6 year old is going to ride in a Trike-A-Thon to raise money for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Every day in America, 24 children are diagnosed with cancer. Daron doesn't really understand what cancer is, but he knows that he is raising money for sick children in the hospital. He raised $135 in pledges. His tricycle, helmet and permission slip are all in the car. I really, really hope the weatherman is right about it clearing up tonight.

Everything they say about red heads is true. He is stubborn and he has the worst temper. His evil eye is almost truly scary.

And that is why I am also so proud of my littlest boy. Despite the fact that he is the most headstrong of my three boys, he is also the most loving and compassionate. You know what else? Tonight he told us that Mommy was *COOLER* than his brother, Steve. Ha! I could understand nicer (I feed him), warmer (I sleep with him sometimes), prettier ... but *COOLER* than his brother? Ha! I love that kid! smile

So that's it for now. Everyone have a great night, what's left of it, and a wonderful Thursday and I'll see some of you at the club later.

Peace out,
~Suzy kiss
