It's complicated.. It's not a true allergy, but a sensitivity to a certain toxin.. as in, it actually affects everyone, but it affects me 1000xs worse.. So depending on the food, it could make me really sick or could kill me (hear problems and asthma).

well most of the stuff that I find really gross is more about food handling/processing than what goes into it.. Like MSG/natural flavors/TVP/etc... They take heaps of completely rotten, festering vegetables, boil it in acid for hours, and scrape off the scum that rises to the surface, dry it... voila! and then add it to all processed foods, inject it into meats (since MSG etc is mostly protein, to give cheap meat a higher grade since it's based on protein content and therefore sell it for more), spray it on vegetables as a pesticide, etc etc.
Oh, and they usually add it to things that are rotten to begin with, because MSG actually dulls your sense of taste, so you can't taste the nastiness..
Umm.. commercially produced mushrooms are especially gross.. Oh god. My husband has had friends that worked in "the mushroom pit" at a food packing plant.. Holy christ
Just think about it... Mushrooms grow on rotting organic matter.. umm.. and they don't wash them, because it makes them soggy.
There's a million other *questionable* practices.. Really, it's everything you eat.
