The TV is on behind me as I try to not waste another weekend just playing World of Warcraft.

I think the MTV movie awards are on. Whatever it is, it's some obnoxious b-list celebration of something or other.

Currently, some horrific band is doing a mangled and nearly atonal reworking of Don't You Forget About Me as part of a "tribute" to the Breakfast Club. It's barbaric.

That track is one of the very few that I think is basically flawless in its original inception. If you absolutely have to fix what ain't broke, then listen to the delightfully left-field reinterpretation by Life of Agony.

I've decided that I'd really like to add one of these to my home recording arsenal, especially because I can use it for remote recording with my laptop. This is especially appealing to me right now because my father wants me to record him performing some songs that have a special significance to him. But at the same time, it really doesn't jive with the financial goals of the day.

I have this theory of economic equilibrium that basically states no matter how much money you make, you will always wind up with the same amount on-hand. You put a little more into your RRSP, you buy a nicer car, and then some jackass dangles a shiny new $800 soundcard in front of your gear-addicted face and all of a sudden your wallet takes on the same gauntness as it did in your school days.

Craziness.

Still, if I'd woken up earlier yesterday, I'd have headed out to Toronto to buy one anyways. There would have been phone calls. Calls to
grrls and dogs. Yonge Street Thai food may have made it on the menu. But alas. Another week. (And not this coming weekend because I'm going to visit the folks again. And not the following weekend, because... well, I'll get to that.)

Two weeks from now, I have two weddings in two different cities. Today I've got to go out and swing a tux rental and get my gifting in order.

It's madness.

I don't think I'm doing any better with the whole turning 30 is. I think all my friends getting their shit together with marriage and home ownership isn't necessarily helping with that.

But that said, these two weddings involve people I would consider among my closest and very best friends on the planet, and I'm nothing but happy for them, and even though my preparations are gonna be hectic, and making sure I hit both ceremonies is gonna be tricky, I couldn't be more excited about being there to share both events with both couples.

I think we've already had this conversation, but here goes: yes, I believe HBO beats up on their characters, but to be honest, it doesn't bother me. Yes, they live in a hyper-reality, but I still find all the feelings they put me through real.

^^^ And at the end of the day you feel it's still probably pretty good to be a Fisher.
