Ah, to be 29 and really discovering The Replacements for the first time. I mean, I'd always been aware of them (in that "I saw their video on Beavis and Butthead" kind of way), and I'm familiar with some of Westerberg's later solo material... but to sit down and really listen to "Bastards of Young" for the first time? Sublime.
I similarly came late to the Joy Division table, likening it to "finding my Beatles". I think I might be able to make similar claims about these Replacement fellows. We'll see how they stand up to a week on the car stereo circuit.
Important news flash du jour: Mike Doughty (ex- of Soul Coughing, SG photographer, and all around musical idol of this asshole) is playing a gig at the Rivoli on Tuesday, May 10. I caught him last year and it was one of the best shows I've ever seen. He's got a new album that drops at the start of May, and I bet if you were really nice he'd sign it for you at the show.
Anyways - attendance is mandatory, kids.
Tickets come to $20 (15 bucks plus the $5 'because we're Ticketmaster, you fuck, that's why' charge) and I guarantee there will not be a better $20 of entertainment anywhere on the planet that night.
