Ah, math vs. literature. The age-old battle. I'm doing a degree in philosophy concurrently with my math degree, so I get to see some of both sides of that issue.

I had that same issue with an old engineer at the building where I used to work. When I told him what I was going to be studying, he said "At least you'll be able to do something with one of them. That philosophy degree's a fucking waste of time."

Uhhh... ok. Of course I couldn't say anything snarky back because I was just there on contract to the building owners, who employed him directly. I piss him off, he tells his boss, she tells my boss, I get fired. Grarg.
