I made it out to Toronto yesterday, rescuing my guitar from the shop (which, after a rocky start to the process, came through delightfully). It's so wonderful to have it back again.

Most of my Toronto crew was otherwise engaged, so one of my friends offered to come along and co-pilot, and we were going to try make some SF Con that was going on downtown. I'd never been to one before, and thought it might be good geeky fun. However, we didn't get out of the store until after 4, and it would have been nearly 5 by the time we got into the Con, which closed at 6. So we visited the crew at my old job, which was nice, and I wound up picking up a new Bass PODxt.

I've wanted one for a very long time and there's just been a price drop. The Pro models are still a touch pricey at $900, but the regular floor models are now a glorious $365. I couldn't resist. I was a little disappointed when I got home, because I remembered my test run with the Pro model as being sublime and sexy. The floor model, despite allegedly having the same guts, just doesn't seem to sparkle and growl the way the other did. Granted, my bass here has ancient strings on it and probably isn't as nice as whatever I tested the Pro model in-store with (I do like taking the Warwicks for test drives). I'll re-string today and see if that makes me any happier.

We even stopped off at Ikea on the way out of town, and this store had everything that the other one didn't have in stock from my trip the other day. That made me happy.

And, most importantly, I conquered some of my paranoia about driving in Toronto. Originally I was just going to bus in and TTC around. Then Dogslife very helpfully suggested that I drive to town and park at one of the subway stations on the periphery, TTCing from there (and saving me from giving Greyhound any more money). But with a co-pilot on board, I said "Fuck it. You gotta learn to fly sometime." And with that, the Fleamobile took to Toronto's mean streets and lived to tell the tale.

Isn't this a beautiful sight?

Now, if you'll excuse me, I must get down with my bad self.
