It's starting to get light out. Why the fuck am I still awake?

I'd be a lot angrier if the sky wasn't awfully impressive right now. It's a very deep purple (there's probably a more accurate term for the shade, but boys are only dealing with the 8-crayon boxes... i have no idea what the fuck magenta is) just at the horizon, which transforms through every conceivable shade of blue before growing very dark again as you look right up into the heavens. I know the sun rises from the east, but it's still wierd to see light directly ahead but dark straight up.

I don't usually tell people this, because it would interfere with the overall hate-on I have for this city (it's boring and the weather is almost always bad), but I really like the view from my apartment window. There's nobody around and there are streetlights forever. It's nowhere near as nice as the view from my Toronto apartment, and a good chunk of it is of the parking lot behind the beer store in the nasty old strip mall, but it will do.

I went to sleep a little after 9pm and woke up at around 1:30am, just in time to give the gf a sendoff as the airbus picked her up for the first leg of her trip to Japan. I won't lie - things have been a little weird with us lately in that we've seriously considered breaking up. (This isn't acrimonious or anything - there are just some legitimate questions that we have to face concerning whether or not we are "right" for one another. We're getting on four years very soon, and there's a certain element of "shit or get off the pot" right now.) And because of that, I was looking forward to a week of time apart. It seemed like it might be very head-clearing. But as soon as she left, I moped around the apartment for a little bit and then went to bed holding onto her pyjama shirt because it smelled like her.

I miss her already.

That's probably why it's 5:30 in the morning and I'm staring at the sky waiting for the sun to come up.

Those of you old enough to remember life before the internet... I want you to really think about this for a moment. I didn't think I could accurately describe the sky, and so I took a picture of it, transferred it over to my computer, threw it up on the web within moments, and now you all know exactly what the view from my balcony - very likely tucked away in some corner of the globe you may never have occasion to see firsthand - was at 5:30 this morning. Doesn't that blow your fucking mind?

The fullsize version of that shot just happens to make a really spiffin' wallpaper, too.
