Bleh. It's grey and snowy today. I wish I wasn't waking up so early these days. It would be nice to sleep in until noon. I think that I've forgotten how.

As usual, not too much going on. But that's not so bad for a vacation. I've gone out several time with the lads, ingested too much alcohol, and gone to the gym precisely once. Oops. smile

After I got back from the gym yesterday, I desperately wanted to crawl into bed and nap for a bit (seriously - how hard do I rock?), but one of my friends called me up and offered to buy me lunch. So we went out to the nice Korean place down the road (which I always enjoy every time I go there, so I have no idea why I always vote against it when we're deciding where to go for lunch around the office - they make a great Gun Mandu and possibly the best Yakidori I've ever had) and he informed me he had just broken up with his girlfriend. They're both friends of mine. They're both co-workers. It's sad all around.

They've been together for a really long time. I can't imagine what that must be like - to come to the conclusion that your heart is just no longer in it, and that it's not what you want anymore. I can understand that the spark can go away, and that feelings can change... but that doesn't mean that, even though you may no longer feel the relationship is right for you, that you care any less about the other person, who has basically been your best and closest friend for years. You hate to see them hurt, and you have to be the one who hurts them, and you can't be there to comfort them afterwards. That can't be any fun.

Of course, I feel just as bad for her in all of this. Like I say - sad all around. Deciding who keeps the apartment, who keeps the car, and who keeps the cats can't possibly be a fun way to spend a weekend.

I'm going to ask him to let me know if he's going to be out of the apartment for a while, and I'll go over and check in on her. I'm not sure how many people know, and she probably won't feel like seeing anybody, but I want to make sure the "if you need anything at any time" offer is on the table as soon as possible. I'm not trying to get in the middle of anything, and I'm certainly not picking sides. But they're still both my friends, right?

This shit just never gets easier.

Update: they've decided to stay together. This makes me happy.

Yesterday night, one of my other good friends, who just recently bought a house with his fiance, invited me over to show me the 50" DLP widescreen TV that he had even more recently bought.

Holy fuck.

Playing Vice City in widescreen may have brought a bigger smile to my face than even the insurance quote of the other day. Unfortunately, there's one rather significant problem: apparantly, due to the light processing on the picture, the picture has a slight delay, offset versus the audio. That means that any rhythm games (and he plays a lot of them - I'm offering a bounty for anybody who can get me footage of him playing Dance Dance Revolution) are nearly impossible to play because the picture and sound are out of sync by just enough to completely throw your timing off.

He may have to return it.

This is almost as heartbreaking as the other story.

Particularly because they have a 2-year 0% financing plan on that model right now and I was going to go and buy one today.

However, the monthly payments would be the same as my insurance payments on the Acura. Maybe that's a sign from God.

In conclusion, I just want to say that I totally got checked out by this really hot girl at the bar the other night. I'd like to think its the piercings. biggrin (And maybe more results from the gym?)

One of the many things I love about my girlfriend is that she can share in my giddy self-satisfaction at being eyed like a piece of steak. It's all I've ever wanted. smile (Well, it helps if the person doing the eyeing has a favourite Pixies album, but that's just nitpicking.)
