I have a horrible suspicion I might be in the earliest phases of fighting off the flu. Because it would be a very, very, very bad thing if any little nasty microbes got brought to my parents' place, I might not be able to go home at all if I do get sick.

Not the world's biggest problem, because I have three weeks of vacation coming up shortly at work, but also, after a rather rough night, I feel a lot better this morning. So, fingers crossed.

Now that enough of you have likely seen Return of the King that I don't feel like I'm offering any spoilers by talking about it, my reaction is that it was awesome, but at the risk of sounding greedy, I was expecting it would be more awesome. Don't get me wrong - it was a visual triumph, and I found no fault in acting or casting and only slight issues with pacing, and the film's 3 hours and change passed without me thinking of the clock once. It's a great film, and a great trilogy, to be sure. But it just didn't go to eleven.

When anybody asks me what my favourite scene was, I usually gush emphatically about how it was when the sentinels finally cracked through the dome and all those guys in the crazy robot suits were there and everybody started fucking shit up. And everybody has a good giggle.

Say what you will about the huge gaping problems with the plot of the third Matrix movie, that scene was fantastic, and literally had my mouth gaping. ROTK just didn't manage to deliver that same kind of punch, despite being a more satisfying story.

I guess they needed giant robots. But what doesn't, really?

On an utterly unrelated note, my gf and I bought a countertop dishwasher many moons ago at the urging of some friends of ours. We thought the thing had a leak somewhere because the counter inevitably wound up flooded. So we brought it back (a huge pain in the ass - we don't have a car, and it's really heavy and awkward for two people to carry, and it's too big to fit in the average trunk) and got a second one. Same thing. After weeks of just dealing with it, we've found it was never the dishwashers - it's actually the washers in our faucets that are hosed, so that whenever any type of water pressure goes through them, they leak everywhere. I don't know if that makes me feel better or worse.

Why do I bring this up? Because the only thing of any consequence I've done with my day is run several loads of dishes to try tidy the place up.

I wonder if I'm old, now.

How's that for my mini-survey (with props to LaDolceVita for inspiring the interactive portion of a good journal)? What was the last (or, if it's more entertaining, the best) thing you did that made you feel old?

Thanks for the props! You got props on my journal yesterday! biggrin

Everytime I clean while complaining that things are a mess I feel old. I did that this morning.

Take some vitamin C and suck on some zinc lozenges. (Telling you to do that makes me feel old too.) Hope you feel better!
