I do declare that there are few things more taxing than buying a condo. The condo development in this city is literally booming (hard to sleep over the noise some nights (haw!)) but due to transportation requirements and my entry-level budget I have been able to rapidly narrow it down to a few choices. Which is really two choices and the third option of just not buying anything yet.

On the one hand I could get a more spacious suite, complete with very exciting interior touches, but is pretty close to my current location, ie: far from down-town, which is where I work and play. Or, on said other hand, I could get a place that is smaller, and a pinch pricier, but is smack-dab in the middle of downtown. In fact on the same avenue as my office.

So basically it comes down to location versus accomodations. Most people I've spoken to say that I should go with location, and I'd tend to agree. But there are a few things that I've needed to consider.

First and foremost is the kitchen. I love cooking and hope to do plenty of it once I get my own space that I can stock and control. No more unexpected messes, no more ganked food and no more having to share a brilliant creation with those who neglected to help in the first place! Yes, it's greedy, but it's true. Concerning this kitchen, the downtown place has one, of course. But the other place (which we will call the South place) has a much nicer kitchen. Granite counters, fancy appliances included, pullout spray faucet and best of all... an island! I haven't lived in a place with an island in years and I can't express how much I've missed it!

So score one point for the south spot. Point two goes to the south because it also comes with a 'den', read: an extra 50sqft to put a computer and such in the corner, which I could see being important. Other nice features like 4" baseboards, a good sized patio and ground-level availability (for barbecue parties) make it very tempting.

But the south location lacks one thing the downtown location has. Downtown. As I said, I work and play there, it makes sense to live there too... doesn't it?

There's way more to this equation of course, and I tend to lean either way many times throughout the day, flip-flopping back and forth; waffling if you will. I haven't settled on a decision, but I've got some things holding and I hope to have settled my mind by the weekend. Wish me luck!
