Graded 40 essays on Beowulf last weekend. Gave F's or D's to 19 of them. Some highlights:
"It is interesting to explore the biblical liasons in Beowulf." (I bet it is.)
"Samson, to whom Orchard compares Beowulf, had gifted hair." (Quite an aptitude for mathematics!)
"If we take time to penetrate the character of Beowulf . . .." (We can still make the 11:30 train home.)
"Grendelle." (Grendel's sistah from da hood.)
"Beowulf rips Grendels arm from his body at the shoulder joint. Then, the rest of Grendel runs away." (I don't know quite what to say.)
